Report

A match that certainly wasn´t dull. The duel between the Swiss Davos and Red Bull Salzburg offered a great hockey spectacle. Already in the seventh minute, when the course of the match was determined. Matti Schmid from Davos overstepped the mark and the referee assessed his behavior with two penalty minutes. Despite the pressure, the Red Bull players could not take advantage of the numerical advantage. The score did not change even when another player from Davos was excluded. Salzburg´s shooting impotence played into Davos´ hands during the Swiss´s third power play in the 22nd minute of the game. Simon Müller almost gave himself an early present for his 16th birthday on Sunday when, his team was short of one player, he threatened the Salzburg goalkeeper with a brilliant backhand shot that Haim just managed to shoulder off the post.

The spectators in the WERK ARENA had to wait until the third period for a goal. The Red Bull players entered it again with a numerical advantage due to Kimi Körbler´s penalty for a blow to the head and neck area. They did not gain anything significant from the two-minute occupation of the territory in front of Soléro. And so the nearly two-meter-tall Salzburg defender Rio Kaiser had to take it upon himself, he outwitted two opponents and found space above Laurin Solér´s concrete with a skillful shot. The Austrian hockey players then controlled the development of the game and held the puck on their hockey sticks. Their dominance was cut short only by a lucky throw from Anton Dunst, which surprisingly swam behind Mika Haim´s back. The cautious Salzburg loosened the reins and Davos began to push. Thoughts of a raid lottery due to a balanced score eight seconds before the end, Lars Steiner, who was found by Köbler with a great pass between the circles. Davos thus turned the match in his favor and claimed his first victory in the tournament.
